Analysis of Transient Changes in Heart Rate

چکیده

The periodic and random variations in human heart rate are physiologically and clinically significant. A wide variety of signal processing techniques have been applied to heart rate time series to extract information regarding heart rate variability. The heart rate response to a startling auditory stimulus is a useful measure of an individual's cardiovascular reactivity and may be related to their risk of developing cardiovascular disease. However, the analysis of cardiac startle responses is not well developed. This project assesses the use of a variety of analysis techniques in accurate quantification of both the immediate and more prolonged heart rate responses to acoustic startle. Pre-processing of ECG signals and automated extraction of RR and PR intervals are the keynote aspects of the project. The heart rate data is provided by an ongoing collaborative project with the Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology, UCD.
